36 a year JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for operating equipment and performing manual labor in support of all City departments as needed.
MAJOR DUTIES Performs general repair and maintenance work on City buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities; performs skilled manual work involving building construction, painting, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating/air conditioning, masonry, or grounds maintenance projects.
Performs building construction tasks, such as constructing, remodeling, installing walls, and painting.
Performs carpentry tasks such as constructing and installing wood structures or cabinetry.
Performs electrical tasks such as troubleshooting electrical issues and installing electrical devices.
Performs various plumbing tasks such as installing plumbing fixtures.
Performs various heating/air conditioning tasks such as servicing HVAC systems.
Performs various masonry tasks such as building sidewalks and steps.
Performs various ground maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, and edging grass.
Performs general manual works tasks associated with department projects.
Operates a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools used in various projects and activities.
Performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
Transport, load and unloads various equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance methods and practices.
Knowledge of departmental and safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repair, and electrical procedures.
Knowledge of various cleaning chemicals.
Skill in operating a tractor, lawn mower(s) and other various hand tools.
Skill in oral and written communication.
SCOPE AND EFFECT The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance duties.
Successful performance helps ensure safe and well maintained facilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is performed while sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, or crouching.
The employee must lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and be able to distinguish between shades of color.
The work is performed indoors and outdoors, where the employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, machinery with moving parts, and occasional inclement weather.
The work requires the use of personal protective equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Valid Driver's License Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for 1-2 years.
